About
Juan Manuel Carmona is a Mexican-American Queer architectural designer and multidisciplinary artist whose work spans across 3D modeling, sculpting, mural painting, and visual arts. His practice deeply explores the intersection of LGBTQIA+ and Latinx communities in San Francisco, California, blending both personal and collective narratives through public art.
Carmona moved to San Francisco in 2010, seeking the freedom to express his identity and share stories as a Queer artist. He viewed the city as a sanctuary, a space where artists could be their authentic selves. Through his murals and public artworks, Carmona aims to amplify positive representations of Queer role models, providing visibility and empowerment within marginalized communities.
His binational heritage as both Mexican and American profoundly shapes his creative perspective, along with his deep connection to his LGBTQIA+ identity. Carmona’s work highlights the dualities faced by millions of Mexican-Americans living between two cultures, two worlds, and two identities. With his public art, he hopes to inspire a sense of pride, love, and belonging in both the Latinx and Queer communities while celebrating the richness of these intersecting identities.
